Spotta has developed and sells an ultra-low power wireless computer vision system for the detection of pests. This enables remote, automatic monitoring of populations of pests where it would be impractical or uneconomical for manual , early and accurate detection. The technology allows operation continuously on low cost electronics using one standard AA battery. The ‘fit and forget’ nature of the products is a key USP. The company’s products use lures or attractants to bring the target species of insect into the view of the vision system so that they can be detected and identified.

The remote units perform a first pass analysis of the insect and determine whether or not to transmit the result to Spotta’s server, where a much more sophisticated and detailed analysis using algorithms and machine vision.
